“An eruption of culture” was the name given to the project responsible to prepare the events of the 50th eruption anniversary of Capelinhos Volcano.

The City Council and the parish of Capelo were responsible for the project, in coordination with Faialentejo. The main idea was to establish events every single year during a decade, all reporting to the memory of the Volcano.

During that time, all the events would be made with the purpose of promoting the Volcano not only in a tourism way but also in a creative, artistic and economic kind of way.

The strategy adopted included an annual prestige contest, the presentation of new books, CD’s and also the promotion of expositions, theatre plays or exhibition of documentaries.
