The Poetry contest

A poetry contest marked the beginning of the project “An eruption of culture”, in 1999.

Sérgio Luis Paixão was the winner of the first two prizes with the following poetries:

First Prize (in the original):
Eram espasmos e tremores
Convulsões e remoinhos
Vi o mar parir com dores
O vulcão dos Capelinhos

Second Prize (in the original):
Este mar que nos rodeia
Atormenta o coração,
Dorme calmo sobre a areia
E acorda num vulcão…

Maria Humberta Dutra Matos received the third prize, but the jury decided to distinguish also Maria de Jesus Rosa e Manuel Tibério Goulart Lino.
